Aptis Writing: Prueba 3

(Tiempo sugerido 3 minutos.)
You are joining a gym. You have 5 messages from another member. Write short replies (1-5 words) to each message.
- Where are you from?
- Who is your best friend?
- Do you have any hobbies?
- What’s your favourite food?
- Do you watch much television?
Part Two
(Tiempo sugerido 7 minutos.)
Before you start at the gym, you have a form to complete. Please tell us the days and times that you want to come, and what type of sporting activities you enjoy. Use 20–30 words.
Part Three
(Tiempo sugerido 10 minutos.)
Before you start at the gym, you have to opportunity to chat online to some of the other members. Talk to them using sentences. Use 30-40 words for each answer.
Ana: Is this the first time you’ve been to a gym?
Belen: Why did you join?
Carlos: I love tennis – what’s your number one sport, and why?
Part Four
(Tiempo sugerido 30 minutos en total)
After being a member of the gym for a few weeks, you receive this email from the gym management.
Dear Members
We are writing to inform you that from next week the gym will be closed at weekends for two months. This is due to that fact that we need to renovate the changing rooms and showers. We have decided that Saturdays and Sundays will be the best days to carry out this work, as attendance is much lower then. We apologise for the inconvenience, and hope you will understand that it is for the benefit of everyone.
The Management
Task 1
(Tiempo sugerido 10 minutos.)
Write an email to your friend who is also a member of the gym. Write about your feelings and what you think about the situation. Write 40–50 words.
Task 2
(Tiempo sugerido 20 minutos.)
Write an email to the management. Write about your feelings and what you think about the situation. Write 120-150 words.

Part One
You are joining a gym. You have 5 messages from another member. Write short replies (1-5 words) to each message. (Suggested time 3 minutes.)
- Where are you from? I’m from Northern England.
- Who is your best friend? It’s impossible to choose!
- Do you have any hobbies? Playing the ukulele.
- What is your favourite food? I adore Indian curries.
- Do you watch much television? No, I prefer reading books.
Part Two
Before you start at the gym, you have a form to complete. Use 20–30 words. (Suggested time 7 minutes.) Please tell us the day(s) and time(s) of day that you want to come, and what type of activities of sporting activities you enjoy.
I’m only free at weekends, preferably mornings. I’m interested in losing weight, as I’ve put on 5kg during lockdown! So High-Intensity Interval Training would be ideal.
Part Three
Before you start at the gym, you have to opportunity to chat online to the other members. Talk to them using sentences. Use 30-40 words for each answer. (Suggested time 10 minutes.)
Ana: Is this the first time you’ve been to a gym?
Not really – I used to be a member of ‘Train that Body’, but that was when I was a student. I haven’t been to the gym since then, so I’m feeling a bit nervous, but excited too.
Belen: Why did you join?
I’ve recently moved to the area, and I don’t know many people yet. So I thought it could be a good way to make new friends while keeping fit and in shape at the same time.
Carlos: I love tennis – what’s your number one sport, and why?
I’m not sure whether you’d call it a sport, but I’ve been doing yoga for many years now, and I’m really into it. I find it good for mental as well as physical health.

Hi Lola,
Have you seen that they want to close the gym at weekends? I’m really angry, as that’s the only time I can make it. I’d even told them I could only do weekend sessions! It’s out of order, don’t you think?
Cheers,
Chris
Task 2
Write an email to the management. Write about your feelings and what you think about the situation. Write 120-150 words. (Suggested time 20 minutes.)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing in response to your email about the weekend closure of the gym. While I appreciate that this work needs to be done, I know I am not the only member who will find this arrangement unacceptable.
I feel you could have informed me of these renovation plans before you accepted my application. I made it very clear when I joined the gym that I could only attend at weekends. Therefore I was surprised and also rather annoyed to receive your email.
I understand that it is never possible to please all the people all the time. However, I have a suggestion to make. Would it be possible to alternate the days you close? That way nobody would feel unjustly penalised, it would be fairer all round and the work could still be completed in the same time.
Yours faithfully,
Chris Guest
