Aptis Vocabulary Practice: Health and Lifestyle
In this day and age, if you had to pick one topic that everyone’s talking about, it must surely be health and lifestyle. Eating well, keeping fit and doing enough exercise is so important for both our physical and our mental health. And of course, it’s another area that’s often tested in many English language exams, including Aptis. So that’s the area we’ve chosen for this set of themed vocabulary tests.
As always, the tests are in the same format as the vocabulary component of the Aptis Core Test so that you get exam practice too.
We recommend you to note down any new vocabulary as you go. This will help you remember words and phrases, and will be useful later when you need to revise for your exam. If you use the new vocabulary in example sentences that are true for you, you’ll find they’ll be more memorable. And check out this video if you want more ideas for memorising lexis.
Aptis Vocabulary Test: Health and Lifestyle
Part 1: Word Pairs
In this part, we’re looking at adjectives related to health and lifestyle. We give you a target word in the following format: ‘training =’. Then you have to select (from a drop-down list) the option that has the most similar meaning to that word in this context; in this case, ‘exercising’.
Part 2: Word Definitions
Here we’re looking at verbs to do with health and lifestyle. We give you a definition and you have to select a word (from the drop-down list) to match that definition. For example, ‘to focus one’s mind for a period of time in silence is to … meditate’.
Part 3: Word Usage
In part three you have to select a word (again from a drop-down list) to complete each sentence correctly. For example, ‘Consuming essential [liquid / nutrients / fruit] helps provide the body with a balanced diet’. The correct answer here is ‘nutrients’.
Part 4: Word Combinations
In this part you have to combine words that are often used together; this is called collocation. For example, we say ‘balanced diet’, not ‘equalised diet’.
