Aptis for Teens FAQ
Here are some FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) about Aptis for Teens, the latest addition to the Aptis suite of exams from the British Council.
What is Aptis for Teens?
Aptis for Teens is an exam that is aimed at non-native speakers of English aged from 13-17.
Is there a curriculum?
No, but the topics that are tested are things that teenagers might experience in their everyday life. There’s a list of potential topics at the foot of this page.
How much does the Aptis for Teens exam cost?
This depends on the country that you’re taking the exam, so please contact your local British Council centre for details.
How long do I have to wait for the results?
The results will be available 48 hours after completing the test online, and you’ll receive a physical certificate between 7 and 10 days.
How are the results presented?
The results from Aptis are presented in two ways: a numerical score which is on a scale of 0 to 50 for each skill tested, and a numerical score for the Grammar and Vocabulary component.
You will be allocated a CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) level for each skill tested. Each CEFR band describes the English language competence in a specific skill and is described on the back of the individual report. If the components for all four skills have been completed, you will also be awarded an overall CEFR level.
Is this exam well recognised?
The degree of recognition depends on the country, so for full details you will have to contact your local British Council centre.
When do I register for the test?
It’s often possible to register for the test up to three days before taking the exam.
Where can I find free practice materials for the Aptis for Teens exam?
There are lots of materials here on this site. You can also use the materials for the Aptis General test, which is very similar. Although not specifically for Aptis for Teens, the British Council has a whole section of its website dedicated to teenage learners here.
